EMDR Intensives

Just as EMDR is a different approach to therapy, EMDR Intensives are a very different approach to providing EMDR treatment. An Intensive usually entails 3-4 hour sessions weekly or monthly for a limited period of time or for a standalone 2 – 4 consecutive days .  Rather than dealing with things on a weekly basis for years, you  can often work through many issues intensively and accelerate the healing and relief you seek as you look to move forward with your life.

Because of the power of EMDR to rewire and truly provide change, EMDR Intensives can work in ways that are not possible utilizing standard talk-therapy techniques or doing EMDR in just 50-90 minutes weekly or biweekly. With EMDR processing, we can desensitize the charge from memories or every day challenges and shift the negative beliefs about yourself that have been encoded and truly move toward healing. This means much more material can be processed and healed much more quickly in longer sessions over consecutive days in EMDR Intensives than is possible in traditional weekly or biweekly therapy.

Please keep in mind it is called an intensive for a reason. The work is certainly INTENSE, but so is the healing!  We offer intensives virtually for those who enjoy the comfort of their home and are located in Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado, or Florida. We also offer intensives in-person for anyone, anywhere willing to travel in Morgan’s office in Paoli, PA as well as an intensive retreat if you wish to immerse yourself for 3-4 days. See below for more information.

Intensive EMDR FAQS

  • My is utilizing the powerful benefits of EMDR & IFS-Informed EMDR with clients who are ready to live without anxiety, depression, dissociation, phobias, addiction, and post-traumatic stress (PTSD). As a client, you will receive your own, client-centered therapeutic process.

My approach is relational, and integrates what I know about neurobiology, parts, and attachment in order to understand symptoms and move toward healing. Research has shown that above all else the quality of the therapeutic relationship heals, so we take the time to get to know you and build safety in the therapeutic space. Being immersed in a retreat setting helps create a sense of safety faster.

Have a therapist already? A healing intensive retreat using EMDR and IFS can be done in collaboration with existing therapy. It can help you get unstuck and provide faster relief to clients when used in conjunction with their regular therapist.

  • I believe it is important to join with my client in making decisions together that are best for them, and not based on what insurance deems medical necessity. For this reason, I do not accept insurance. I do offer a Good Faith Estimate and Superbill for Out of Network Services provided. I also provide information on verifying your out of network benefits and a free benefits verification tool here.

  • Please note Morgan provides a customized package for each client. In general, intensives are either weekly, monthly, or 2-4 days for 3-5 hrs per day. My weekday rates $825-$1,625 for intensive therapy and weekend rates are $975-$1,950 per day. Please inquire about retreat options and rates by emailing admin@ifsemdrtherapy.com.

Intensive Therapy has been shown to be a more cost-effective way to complete trauma therapy than weekly appointments for clients. A 5-day intensive has been shown to be equivalent to 1 year of weekly therapy appointments.

We require an 50% non-refundable deposit to hold intensive dates and then the remaining 50% is paid 1-week prior to your intensive.

Payment can be made by debit and credit cards and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) cards through our HIPAA-secure practice management system.

  • I offer teletherapy or online sessions for people located anywhere in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, Colorado, and Florida.

Intensives are available to anyone, anywhere as long as they are willing to travel to my office in Paoli, Pennsylvania for treatment.

  • Yes! Perhaps you’ve a felt sense of stuckness but you feel a connection with your current that you aren't ready to move away from or maybe you are not quite sure how to shift all the way into a new experience of yourself with your current therapist. It's also possible you've been doing talk therapy so you now cognitively understand new things, but your body is still confused, so you’re curious about how adjunct EMDR intensive therapy can help. Schedule a consultation today to see if an Intensive can help.

  • Yes, I am currently only accepting new clients for retreat style intensives in January, March, and April 2025. A 45-minute consultation is the first step. The cost of the consultation is $260. If we are not a fit, I will provide you with a few excellent referrals.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based psychotherapy technique developed by Francine Shapiro to help individuals cope with and overcome the emotional distress and symptoms associated with traumatic experiences. EMDR is particularly effective for individuals who have experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD (CPTSD), other trauma-related conditions. EMDR addresses the psychological and physical symptoms stemming from adverse life experiences. However, EMDR is not just for trauma; it is also utilized for performance enhancement.

Overall EMDR is used to help people who are dealing with present day symptoms that might be related to experiences in the past. Learn more about the EMDR Phases here.

  • IFS-Informed EMDR is an integrative approach that combines Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR, to help clients heal from the symptoms and emotional distress from trauma and past stressful events. These modalities provide a compassionate, non-judgmental way to understand blocks, defenses, and stuck things in your life. Learn more here.

  • After an EMDR Intensive, the healing continues. I am happy to offer referrals for therapists who offer weekly or biweekly support. In some cases, I may be able to offer a monthly adjunctive EMDR in-person in my office or virtually if you are located in state where I am licensed. This is dependent on whether it is an appropriate level of care for you and if I have the space in my caseload. If I am not available or it is not a fit, I can help you with referrals. I also welcome those who have done an intensive with me to return any time in the future for another intensive.

We offer customizable healing intensives in our Philadelphia suburb office or in a stunning setting surrounded by nature with daily treatment from a highly trained, seasoned therapist. Our EMDR Intensives also draw on IFS, attachment, and polyvagal theory.

Next Step

If you are interested in an Intensive, please contact us to schedule an intake session and we will help you decide if an Intensive is right for you.  In most cases, Intensives can be utilized to work on very specific parts of a client’s history or current stuck place and then after the Intensive the client returns to the care of their weekly therapist to continue. Also in some cases, you may find that more than one intensive is needed to move the dial. We will discuss this possibility.

If you currently have a therapist, please feel free to discuss this option with them and Morgan is happy to discuss collaborative work with therapists as well.

THE RESEARCH SHOWS

  • Intensive application of trauma-focused therapy seems to be well tolerated in patients with PTSD, enabling faster symptom reduction with similar, or even better, results, while reducing the risk that patients drop out prematurely. Learn more here and here.

  • Intensive EMDR treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a very short time frame. Learn more here.

  • An intensive program using EMDR therapy is a potentially SAFE AND EFFECTIVE treatment alternative for COMPLEX PTSD. Learn more here.

  • SAVES YOU MONEY AND TIME: even compared to other trauma therapy, the intensive format may decrease treatment time, because of time not spent on a) checking in at the beginning of each session, b) addressing current crises and concerns, c) focusing on stabilizing and coping skills that the client won’t need after trauma healing, or d) assisting the client in regaining composure at the end of the session.
