What is DBR?
Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is a non-invasive therapeutic technique that focuses on the body's responses to trauma, particularly those in the brainstem. It's not about talking through the trauma, but rather about noticing and attending to the body's responses
A Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) session typically involves the following steps:
Creating safety: The therapist and client create a safe and supportive environment
Identifying a target: The client and therapist identify a recent example of a trigger, behavioral pattern, or emotional response that the client wants to shift
Grounding in the brainstem: The client and therapist use a grounding exercise to help the client anchor into their brainstem
Turning towards the distress: The client focuses on the target and tracks their body's responses
Processing and rewiring: The client and therapist work to slow down the body's response sequence, which may allow for rewiring and reconsolidation
Integration: The client and therapist work on integrating the changes into the client's life
